Dental Veneers: Composite or Porcelain

Veneers are made of wafer-thin restorative material, such as composite resin or dental porcelain and are used to treat teeth that are damaged, stained, crooked, gapped or misaligned. The difference between veneers made of composite resin and those made from porcelain is not just in the material, but how the veneers are fabricated and placed in the mouth.

Composite resin veneers can be directly moulded and placed over your teeth while you are in the studio, or designed off-site at a dental lab according to your bespoke dental measurements. Porcelain veneers made of dental porcelain are usually custom-made in a dental laboratory, and then fitted to your teeth through a bonding process at your next appointment.

When used according to prescriptive guidelines and standards, porcelain veneers are a practical and aesthetically pleasing way to correct dental imperfections and provide cosmetic contouring for teeth that are worn or discoloured. Our experienced dentist will evaluate your dental needs, discuss options with you about the appropriate veneer treatment for you and help you to decide.

Dental Porcelain Veneers Process

Made of dental porcelain, these wafer-thin ceramic veneers are designed to bond to your natural teeth. Our dentist will initially take measurements, x-rays and photographs of your teeth and mouth as needed, in order to compile the correct measurements to custom-make your porcelain veneers.

Once the ceramic is moulded to shape in the dental laboratory, the surfaces of your teeth will be prepared – cleaned and etched – for the ceramic veneers to be fitted. A fitting will be arranged so that your porcelain veneers can be bonded to your teeth, to give a more natural looking tooth shape and to brighten your teeth for a healthy looking smile.

Porcelain veneers provide whiter, evenly shaped teeth that don’t just look healthy but feel good too. The ceramics used provides durability and resistance to staining. You can smile with confidence and peace of mind knowing your teeth are appealing in appearance.

Advantages of Dental Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers can be fitted in a minimum of two dental consultations. Designed to last between five and ten years, porcelain veneers are a durable veneer alternative to composite veneers. At Kent Smile Studio we work with you to maintain the condition of your veneers and to achieve the natural glowing appearance that you desire.
