Cosmetic Dental Implants

Placement of a Dental Implant

Dental implants date as far back as the Egyptians and Mayans, when materials such as wood and the bones of animals were used to replace missing teeth. Thankfully, advances in technology and technique, along with the advent of materials such as titanium, have allowed dentists to design safer tooth replacements and gentler treatment techniques.

A person can lose a tooth for any number of reasons: for some, it is a result of genetics, while others suffer a disease or injury. At Kent Smile Studio, we offer dental implant treatment in a calm and relaxed environment, with caring and qualified staff on hand to meet your needs.

Types of dental implants

There are two main types of dental implant treatment, which are called root form and plate form.

Root form dental implants, also known as endosseous implants and made from titanium, mimic the natural root of the tooth, so that they easily fuse with the jaw bone in a process known as osseointegration. They are much like how you would think of natural teeth, but without the periodontal ligament. Most dental implants today are root form.

Plate form dental implants, also referred to as subperiosteal implants, were commonly used prior to root form implants. With plate form implants a full plate or metal frame is screwed into the jawbone, onto which artificial teeth are attached. Artificial teeth, also referred to as dental prosthesis, may be removable or fixed and include crowns, dentures and bridges.

Dental implant procedures differ according to the type of dental implant treatment. At Kent Smile Studio we offer the All on 4 dental implant system, which can give you a full set of natural looking teeth in one day and at an affordable cost.

Dental implant procedures

You will initially need to attend a consultation to discuss your dental health and implant needs. Your mouth will be measured and photographed with cutting-edge technology, so your dental implants can be custom-designed in our dental lab according to the specifications of your mouth. We take pride in our personalised care to meet your needs. We treat the sockets of your gums where teeth are missing to prepare for the implantation of the titanium root posts. Temporary replacement teeth, such as a crown, may be used in the interim to encourage the jaw/dental bone to fuse to the titanium posts and for the fitting of your permanent replacement teeth.

At Kent Smile Studio we have the All on 4 dental implant system, which shortens dental implant treatment time and allows patients greater control over their dental implants. The procedure is different to other implant procedures because implants are fitted at a 45 degree angle for improved stability to teeth structure and function. Fewer implants are needed to fit a full arch of teeth on either the upper or lower jaw.

Dental implants for health and well-being

Dental implant treatment can take anywhere from a couple of months to longer, depending on the type of dental implant treatment. Our team at Kent Smile Studio will advise you on the different types of implant treatments and help you make an informed choice about your dental care. Not replacing missing teeth can affect tooth structure, teeth alignment and how the jaw and mouth functions, so it is vital to have them replaced to recover proper eating and speaking. Dental implant treatment is available at our practice to improve your health and boost comfort in daily functions that require the use of your teeth and mouth.

Do not hesitate to talk to us about your dental health needs.
